In a significant move aimed at fostering unity and strengthening the party's base, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has embarked on a comprehensive reconciliation initiative. The party's Caretaker Committee, led by Chairman Benjamin Omale, has set up a reconciliation committee tasked with touring all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to address grievances and bring aggrieved members back into the fold.
The Reconciliation Initiative
The reconciliation committee's mandate is clear: to ensure peace and unity within the party. Chairman Omale emphasized the importance of this initiative during a recent meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benue State. He assured that the committee has a six-month tenure to achieve its goals, expressing confidence that the efforts will yield positive results before the term expires.
Engaging the Media
Recognizing the crucial role of the media in this process, Omale appealed for collaboration and professionalism from journalists. He urged them to uphold accuracy and correctness in their reportage, highlighting the need for developmental journalism that projects the transformative strides of Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration.
A Call for Unity
The Secretary of the Committee, Prof. Bem Angwe, also made a passionate appeal to aggrieved members to sheath their swords and embrace peace. He cautioned against actions that could instigate further crises within the party and reiterated the committee's determination to reconcile all parties involved.
The Road Ahead
As the reconciliation committee embarks on its tour across the 23 LGAs, the focus will be on listening to the concerns of party members, addressing their grievances, and fostering a sense of belonging and unity. This initiative is not just about resolving conflicts but also about building a stronger, more cohesive party that can effectively contribute to the development of Benue State.
The success of this reconciliation effort will depend on the willingness of all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards common goals. With the support of the media and the commitment of party members, the Benue APC is poised to emerge stronger and more united.
